4 Simple Steps to Make Holiday Hosting a Breeze
The holidays are fast approaching. It can be a stressful time of year. Especially, post pandemic! Getting yourself and your home organized can help alleviate part of that stress and make entertaining more enjoyable for everyone, especially you!
1. Clean out the fridge
The first tip, clean out your fridge! Dump all of the condiments that are out of date 3 weeks prior to your holiday. Eliminate food products that have spoiled one week to 10 days ahead. It leaves plenty of time to do your grocery shopping with lots of room to load up. You will have plenty of space to store you holiday meals and treats.
2. Set your table prior to the evening
Second tip, start setting the table 7-10 days ahead of your holiday. This gives you plenty of time to locate everything you need, clean all of the items; as well as, go out and buy any items you might need. It helps you determine the flowers you will need and the seating of the guests. It also helps you figure out the flow of the night. Where you will serve cocktails, if the dinner is seated or buffet and so much more that I can't even list. Trust me, it's an asset to do it all ahead!
3. Flowers done ahead of time
Third tip, have your flowers completed the day ahead. Whether you are preparing them or a florist, make sure to have them done the day ahead of your meal. It allows you to make last minute changes to the arrangement if necessary and also to your table. If the flowers are too wide or tall, you have time to make the change. Make sure to have flowers done on the lower side. It allows conversation to flow in all directions when the guests can see each other across the table.
4. Create a bar area
Fourth tip, set up your bar the day ahead, too! Have a drink station determined with everything, anyone would need. Whether it's self-serve or bartended doesn't matter. If you have it done ahead it prevents you from scrambling hours before the evening. Lemons, limes, mixers, sodas and pitchers of water. Have it all set up.
Final thoughts
Preparing your home a few days ahead is key to a less stressful and enjoyable holiday. It takes some thought and organization, but you will be so grateful. Less stress means a happy holiday for you and everyone else!
