My Favorite Rooms at the Showhouse
New York City, how do you sum it up? It’s without a doubt one of the most exciting cities in the world. There is always something happening, gorgeous buildings, tons of shopping, beautiful hotels, non-stop entertainment whether its Broadway, restaurants, clubs and an amazing open, green space in the middle of the city called Central Park. One is never at a loss to find something to do.
Recently, I was lucky enough to get there during the Kips Bay Decorator’s Showhouse. Trust me, it did not disappoint! There were so many rooms that served up tons of inspiration for future projects. The rooms ranged from light to dark to traditional to contemporary displaying creativity by each and every designer. Here were some of my favorites:
Paloma Contreras designed this room called “Spring Awakening”. I loved her use of the Gracie Wallpaper combined with antique mirrors in the panels around the room as well as her gorgeous color palette. The room felt, bright, light and just like “Spring”.
Sara Bartholomew’s, “ A room of Her Own”, had a light feel to it, as well. Look at those plastered fluted walls! They’re a showstopper setting the backdrop for the entire room. She incorporated details using antiques and art adding layers and texture to the room.
The grand upper staircase by Brian Gluckstein was spectacular. The gorgeous blue tone of the carpet, grass cloth walls with painted details and a mobile with bronze blossoms that hung down the entire length of the home. It looks like it goes on forever!
Charlotte Moss’ room was a fantasy wrapped in fabric. She created a bedroom swathed in the most beautiful fabrics in blue and red tones. Looking at it made me want to just go and lie down!
Young Huh’s, “Artist Loft” used Fromental’s wallpaper to set the tone of her space. She highlighted the pink tones from the wallpaper and carried it over into the furnishings. Adding another layer of fun to the room was having the shades to the chandelier painted by her friends. Each one was different and a total original.
There were many more rooms filled with spectacular designs to inspire. These were just my favorites. I’m hoping I get to go back every year to fill my palette with tons of inspiration for each coming year.
