Suggestions on How to Get Through This Difficult Time

What do you write about when the world has turned upside down? I have been sitting at my computer for days trying to write a blog that has meaning or some insight into life during this unprecedented time. Everything seems so trivial; just so unimportant to what is happening in the world. Instead, I decided to write about what is helping me deal with all of the turmoil and uncertainty.

MAKE MY BED

It’s such a trivial task, but one that makes me feel somewhat normal. I make my bed every day. I have always been the one who likes to get into a beautiful, well-made bed at night. I feel the room is clean and straight (when in reality the bed being made is the only straight thing in the room). It seems so silly, but making my bed in the morning gets my mind and body in the right frame to get on with my day. It makes me feel kind of normal during these uncertain times.

My bedroom may not look like this, but I try my best to have a made bed every morning. This one by Cortney Bishop Design looks like heaven on earth.

This bedroom works perfectly for me. It’s light, bright and my favorite, blue! Again, a beautifully made bed that is not mine, but is made like mine.

ENJOY WORKING FROM HOME

Since I started my interior design business, I have been a work from home entrepreneur. This hasn’t changed since the Corona Virus appeared, but now everyone else is doing it, too. That means my husband is home at the same time. We are both making phones calls, both on our computers, both seeking out our own space. I keep telling myself this won’t last forever and that we won’t get to have lunch together, every day like we are right now. I won’t get to see him all the time. I’m going to enjoy it for now.

Now, if I had a space like this, I don’t think I’d ever get back in my car to drive to work. Love that nice, long table that has great lighting. I might be willing to share it with my other half.

This office provides total serenity and calm which I can use every day. Just not sure the surface would look like this if I was in this space. I’m afraid it would be completely covered.

NO PRESSURE

Normally, my day is spent running around from one vendor to another, meeting clients in their homes, meeting contractors on job sites, basically, driving all over the city in a day. Now, I can’t do that. Instead, I am savoring having every single sample, etc. mailed to me at my home. I don’t use gas to get from place to place, I don’t use my energy running around like a crazy woman and I don’t feel as exhausted at the end of the day. Instead, I sit on my phone or send out emails to get everything I need. It sure is an easier and a simpler way of getting it all done. It may take a little longer, but why was I in such a hurry?

FACETIME

Why have I waited so long to be a FaceTime fan? I never, ever had used FaceTime before the Coronavirus. It was actually a big fear of mine to be seen on it. I mean, no one really looks very good on FaceTime. But now, everyone is doing it, including me. It’s the one way I can keep in touch with my kids and family since we’re SOCIAL DISTANCING. I get to see faces and expressions and not just hear their voices. This is a practice I will continue even when we aren’t STAYING HOME.

BEING GRATEFUL

I remind myself every day how lucky I am. I’m grateful that my family is healthy. I’m grateful my children all still have their jobs. I’m grateful to have food on the table. I’m grateful to have a roof over my head. I could go on forever with everything I’m grateful for at this moment in time. So many people are going through difficult challenges which don’t even include getting sick. Loss of jobs that lead to loss of homes. People consumed with worry about how to feed their family. I consider myself very lucky to be healthy with a roof over my head surrounded by the people I love.

That’s all for now. See ya next time!
