3 Ways the Pandemic Has Changed the Home Industry
About 18 months ago every one of us began spending all of our time at home! The pandemic happened and nothing has been the same since. We spend more time at home than ever before.
Most likely, we have noticed we want to make changes in our homes. That may mean new furniture, a kitchen or bathroom renovation or a new home, all together. We want our homes to be more comfortable, more up to date, and most likely, serve the function of an office, too!
1. Increase in Demand
If you have begun to research or actually begin your project, you probably have noticed that you are not the only one! Everyone else is doing it, too. The demand for furniture, renovations and new builds is off the charts! Many people are still at home working and not going back any time soon. Some companies may never go back. People need to have their work space at home actually work for them for the long term!
2. Decrease in Supply
Because the demand is so high for much of the design industry, getting the products that range from furniture to building supplies is very difficult. Not only in the production, but actually getting the products transported has been an issue. The supply chains have been completely disrupted throwing the design world into upheaval. Furniture lead times can take up to 6 months, appliances can take up to 8 months, and backorders on everything else is taking FOREVER. It's enough to send all of us into a panic!
3. Longer Wait Times & Timelines
Basically, however long you thought a project would take, you need to add about 4-6 months to it. Otherwise, you're going to be filled with lots of disappointments as well as frustration. Having patience right now is imperative! Nothing happens quickly these days. You need to realize that prior to beginning your project. If you do, the entire process will run much smoother for you and everyone else involved.
What can you do?
Hiring a designer is the best tool in your back pocket to help deal with all of the issues. They can help facilitate the process and do all the leg work to get the project off the ground. Many times designers have in's with contractors and builders to help facilitate getting on their calendars quicker. They can also deal with all of the headaches associated with the delays. You, as the homeowner, don't have to become frustrated with the whole process.
