How to get the Best Lighting for Your Home
Adding lighting to a space can make a huge impact. It can set the tone of the room. It can create a modern, traditional or even transitional feel to the interiors of your home. I love using lighting to take some risks. I think of it as the jewelry for your room. In most of our projects, the lighting is one of the finishing touches that completes the space.
Here are some great ways we have used lighting in some of our designs. In this project, we were designing a family friendly living space that connected to the breakfast area of the kitchen. We wanted the room to have a more transitional feel. The furniture has more traditional lines with modern fabrics. Adding this modern light gave the room that fun effect!
In another project, clients were considering remodeling their kitchen. They were not ready to make the full commitment. We decided to go ahead and replace the lighting to let them get a taste of what the space could be once renovated. We picked lights that worked with their current cabinets and dining space, but made sure they could transition to a renovation. The kitchen and dining area opened up to each other. We wanted to make sure all of the lighting worked together. We replaced the lighting over the an island, bar table and dining table. You can see them all together, here:

All of the lights complement each other by carrying the theme of iron and gold. We made sure to have a thread that united all of them running though the spaces.
Another recent renovation involved replacing existing lighting in a traditional home to make it feel more current. Over the kitchen table we used some large pendants that have traditional lines, but due to the scale and finish made the space feel fresh and new.
In the same project, we tackled their basement, too. Before we began, all of the basement lights were flush mounted. Most of the lower level ceilings were high enough to add more impactful lighting. We added lights that set the mood and the tone of all of the rooms.
The spaces blended into each other so it was important, again, to make sure the lighting flowed and worked together. The lights provided added another layer of style to the project.
How do you like to use lighting in your home? I’d love to hear about it. Leave your comments below.
That’s all for now. See ya next time!
