Rarely does designing a space happen overnight. It can take months and sometimes a couple of years. I recently wrapped up a project that began with just replacing a dining table in a family room space. That’s where it started, and ended with a complete room redo. It turned out to be a fresh, clean and comfy place to pull up a chair and stay a while.

At the end of a project you get to see all the pretty pictures. You get to see how all of the hard work paid off and produced a beautiful space. The reveal is as fun for me as it is for you. What you don’t see is the timeline. Sometimes these projects take months to years to complete. Recently, I wrapped up a basement project that was several years in the making. A family wanted to create a space for their children to hang out with friends as well as a space they could all enjoy, together. Their basement was typical for an older home. I feel like I am constantly saying, “Before COVID happened, I was….”. Anybody else doing this? I keep thinking in terms of before and after in dealing with our lives during this pandemic. In keeping with that theme, I worked on a really fun project before COVID happened. I had clients who wanted to update their basement and make some additional changes to their home. They wanted a basement space their family could hang out in together. They had a great layout, but it needed updating with fresh paint, carpet and furniture. They had done what so many of us do where we put all of our collected, older pieces of furniture in the basement. Items we are not ready to part with, but they don’t really go together, any more. I don’t know about you, but I have been spending more time in the kitchen these past few weeks than I have for the past year! I’ve been eating A LOT, but also cooking way more. It’s been a while since I’ve done a blog post. Life has been super busy as I am sure it has been for everyone reading this. Wrapping up the year means wrapping up several projects and the beginnings of lots of new ones. So excited for the next year! Lots is happening at Morse Design.

This time of year is crazy for everyone! It doesn’t matter if you work in or out of the home, life is total chaos. Between work life, family life and buying gifts for everyone and their mother, life feels like we are all sitting on a Ferris wheel, constantly turning at a very high speed.
